Assistance / Reimbursement

In October 2008, the School committed to helping survivors of Ted Washburn’s abuse as described below by the Head of School.

The following has been written to explain the procedure and identify what you may expect in terms of support.

It includes:
1) instructions for starting or continuing therapy

2) instructions for receiving payment or reimbursement.

3) description of the school’s pledges from October 2008

  • Starting therapy

BB&N has contracted with a consulting psychiatrist in Massachusetts to help you.
You may schedule a consultation with the consulting psychiatrist by calling 617-558-3901.  Identify yourself as someone seeking assistance relating to Ted Washburn.
The consultation may take place at the psychiatrist's office in Massachusetts or by phone.  After the consultation, the psychiatrist will help locate a therapist or psychiatrist who can work with you.  You may ask for recommendations for multiple therapists to help find a good match.

  • Continue Therapy

BB&N is providing a consulting psychiatrist to make recommendations for therapy or treatment and arrange for payment.  Contact the psychiatrist by calling 617-558-3901 and identifying yourself as someone seeking assistance arising out of experiences relating to Ted Washburn.  Notify him that you are a victim of Ted Washburn’s currently in therapy and explain that you will be sending bills for reimbursement.

  • Submit expenses

1 Remove information from the bill (i.e. name) that would identify you personally.  If your provider is in private practice, notify the provider that payment will come from BB&N.  Instruct your provider not to contact the school directly in order to keep your identity confidential.

    2. Mail the bills to the address below. You may also scan the bills and email them.
You may contact the psychiatrist to confirm he has received your claim at  617-558-3901.

  • The School's pledges

From the letter sent by the Head of School.

“A psychiatrist will be made available to any person who comes forward seeking assistance for emotional injury arising out of experiences relating to Ted Washburn.

Any individual who contacts the dedicated line below will receive consulting and referral services which will be completely anonymous to BB&N.

The consulting psychiatrist will make recommendations to the School for any further therapy or treatment.
The School will bear the cost of this consultation and treatment.

We will not seek to obtain any information from this process other than the anonymous information necessary to provide necessary medical or psychiatric services.”

Disclaimers

1) To protect your identity, request that the consulting psychiatrist provided by the school make payments to your providers / reimbursements to you directly, rather than having the billing process go through the Head of School and the BB&N billing office.

2) Opening BBN Minds submitted this material to the consulting psychiatrist on April 27, 2009.  Although the instructions and information is consistent with what the school has communicated, you may want to check with the consulting psychiatrist to insure that your claims and anonymity are handled appropriately.
