About the website

Opening BBN Minds was launched in the Spring of 2008 to deliver the message that people abused by Washburn had nothing to be ashamed of.  On the contrary, they and their family and friends should pride themselves on addressing a long-standing sore point in the BB&N community and to preventing similar abuse from happening again.

Prior to launching the site, Weinreb obtained confirmation from multiple sources that Washburn's trial had only addressed a small piece of his abuses over two decades.  Alumni, lawyers, therapists and educators reviewed the site for accuracy and appropriateness and submitted suggestions for improvements.

The website is maintained by Weinreb using a simple Web hosting tool called Sitebuilder.  The views expressed on the site are from a wide spectrum of people including alumni from many decades and many perspectives.

Daniel Weinreb

Daniel Weinreb (Nick to his high school classmates) attended BB&N from  1976 to 1989.  A graduate of Princeton University and UC Davis Graduate School of Management, he worked in high tech and finance companies from 1996 to 2005.  In 2005 he moved back to New England to work as a VISTA Volunteer for a nonprofit started by Dartmouth students and BB&N alum Simon Dennis (BB&N '89).

Active in the Vermont community, his recent work includes non-profit fundraising and consulting.  He will be starting rabbinical school in 2009.

Mr. Weinreb created Opening BB&N Minds after realizing that the abuse that he suffered was likely shared by many other alumni.
